Stuff from the Cookie Jar

Color shift. About time, it's summer, and whatnot!

So here's a non-work related JT sketch I did at work. Once the actual episodes come out I miiiiiiight be able to post some of my favoriter scenes, but until then, have some of this:

London Forest Project

Feeneesh!
I must go back and take some better shots with better lighting, but here are some samples:

The perspective is kind of wack, but I'm still pretty satisfied with the outcome.
I even snuck in a little Totoro...

And monkeyplugs. =)

Mischief Managed!

My flatemate moved out and left us with a plethora of leftover art supplies, including several giant pieces of foam-core for which I really have no use.... until last night!

My other flatmate is rather fond of video games, and I'm rather partial to shenanagans, so we decided to put to good use and decorate the room where we're building art kits this year. We shoved about 24 boxes of newsprint next to the wall and I parkour-ed my way to the top. Then, using some handy kendo swords, managed to shove the thing on top of the ventilation shaft.

I'm betting it'll probably still be up next year.

Slappin' on the paint

Verdict: Tree Wall!

This is the little tub room. (the fishwall is just through the door on the right from here)

After laying down some quick pencil scratches for rough positioning, I mix up a random color (in this case a delightful grass green) and sketch out the trees in more detail.

Mom: "Is the whole thing going to be this green?"

The red and yellow paints tend to be more translucent than the other colors (this is just regular housepaint after all) so several more layers will be needed. This looks more finished than it actually is.

I've got most of the basecoat drybrushed in now, but theres still a portion of wall to the left I wont start until the next session, as it will be a floating tree, and therefore I need my final colors mixed up before I can proceed. Otherwise, things are progressing along pretty well, considering I've only done about 20 hours so far. Go me.

At this point my hand started going numb and I kept dropping my brush, so time to call it quits for this week. I left that green blotch on the right hand side just for you, ma.

Treewall or(and?) Beachwall

New wallpainting request in progress. Requestees are currently debating between trees or beach; I think I'd prefer to do the forest, but more chances of hiding P.o.t.C. stuff in the second. Rum bottles and such.

Techniques of the Old Masters (ongoing)

Given up the tablet for a bit to dabble in oil painting!

I'm taking a class at Sheridan for something to do (as well as some refresher life drawing lessons in Toronto, hooray!)

First assignment: Reproduction of a master work. I picked Georges DeLaTour because Baroque is just so much more fun to (re)paint than renaissance. Dramatic lighting!

This class involves everything from building the canvas or wooden panel to making the gesso from scratch to mixing the oil and pigment together in a mortar, then applying it to your surface in layer (wait a week before you can add another) after infuriating layer.
Next stage is to start glazing on different colors to achieve the actual colors in the painting.

t.b.c....

PS: Comic Con was Rockn'! broke even for the table and almost all the money spent on prints and frames and whatnot. Maybe someday I'll put the photographic evidence up on flickr, but for now you'll just have to take my word on it. =3

Fan eXpo

Hello internets!
I've been ignoring my blog for a bit, as I wasn't drawing much for a while, (due to laziness, employment and Kendo distracting me). But! I will make it up to you with an almost-bran-spaking-new drawering.

Katie, Jenn and I are going to be parked at a table at the Toronto comic con this weekend. Anyone planning on going please come say hello! It's my first table, I'm pretty excited. Or wired from the sugar. Probably both.

And now, an art!
